At HKUST School of Medicine, we are committed to building a diverse and talented student body by attracting bright local and non-local graduate students who wish to pursue medicine as a career.  

Our holistic admissions process prioritizes academic excellence and the essential qualities necessary to succeed as a clinician. Applications are targeted to open from around mid‑2027.

Entry Requirements

The following criteria set out the minimum requirements for applying to HKUST School of Medicine’s 4-year graduate-entry MBBS program. Additional details about the entry requirements will be provided in advance of the application window.

Academic Requirement

Possess or be expecting to possess a recognized undergraduate degree qualification in health sciences, biological sciences or related fields.

Ideally a first-class honors or equivalent, from a reputable university in Hong Kong or overseas.  

Admissions Test

Sat either the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) or Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT).

The MCAT or GAMSAT must have been taken within two years prior to the applicant’s submission date. Results will need to be available to the admissions team at the time of application for consideration.  

Language Requirements

Demonstrate an acceptable proficiency in English and Chinese languages. Please click here for the University’s English language requirement. Proficiency in Chinese language will be assessed during interviews.#   

# Waiver of the Chinese language admission requirement may be granted at the discretion of the Dean. Language support will be available for those requiring boosting of Chinese language skills.
Personal Statement and Letters of Recommendation

A personal statement, along with letters of recommendation from referees such as academic tutors, supervisors, and employers. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview session.

2026

Further details about the admissions process and entry requirements will be posted on the website by end of 2026

2027

Prospective students can start applying online from around mid-2027
Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, and shortlisted applicants invited to an interview session
After the interview, successful applicants will be notified

2028

The application cycle completes by mid-2028, and successful applicants start the MBBS program in the 2028/29 academic year

Not a Graduate?

If you are interested in our graduate-entry Medicine program but don't yet have an undergraduate degree, our BSc in Biomedical and Health Sciences, BSc in Biotechnology, BSc in Biotechnology and Business, and BSc in Biochemistry and Cell Biology are a great choice.
